Does it cost to view the kazari?
The kazari displays are free to the public.
Where does it take place?
The Tanabata Festival displays are located in the entrance to the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center in Little Tokyo.
Can I learn to make a kazari?
Yes! Anyone can do it. And it’s easy once you know how. The best way to learn is to contact us arrange a lesson.
How Long is the Event?
The Tanabata Kazari will be displayed from August 15 – 23, 2026.
The kazari display will coincide with the Little Tokyo Nisei Week Festival.
Where do I buy material to make kazari?
You can purchase all the materials you need at one of our workshops. If you can’t schedule a workshop, you can complete a Kazari Supplies order form and schedule an appointment for pick-up at the JACCC. Shop early for best selection of papers and other material!
How do I enter my kazari in the contest?
Entering your beautiful kazari is easy. Go to the Contest section and register. It only takes a few minutes to complete. The entry fee is only $10. Registration deadline is Saturday, August 8, 2026.
